The Murchison River Lodge was well constructed on the rim of the River Nile with views of numerous hippos and the renowned Murchison Falls National Park. They offer mid-range accommodation within safari tents plus thatched cottages. Guests that come with their personal tents can pitch them in the beautiful shady campsite that is entirely self sufficient.
Presently they provide the following mid-range facilities:
lovely family thatched cottages which are large enough and comfortable as well as beautifully furnished. These have bed linen, large mosquito nets that can even cover twin beds, towels, en-suite bathrooms with hot water and a flushing toilet. its room is open-plan having a double bed on its mezzanine floor which is accessed using a staircase, and right below 2 single beds look overlooking the bushland through a huge window. There is a sofa plus a swinging hammock on the wooden veranda where you can always sit back and unwind or enjoy the beautiful view (remember to bring your binoculars to enjoy the overwhelming bird life here). However the cottages don’t have air conditioning or fan facilities.
The furnished safari tents are pitched on leveled ground looking over the River Nile. Each is fitted with mosquito nets, clean towels, bed linen, an outdoor private bush shower plus a chemical toilet. These are twin-shared but where need be a third bed can be offered. It’s taking bush camping to another level. However the tents don’t have air conditioning or fan facilities.
Lazy camping in any of our spacious dome tents is available for those who would love to camp (yet don’t wish to put up their personal tents). These are twin shared and are found within the campsite and well fitted with beds, clean towels and bed linen. There are clean and well kept toilets plus bathrooms at the campsite. However the tents don’t have air conditioning or fan facilities.
The shaded campsite offers some of the finest toilet plus shower blocks in East Africa. This actually is a labor of passion – since we are campers ourselves we well understand the importance of good toilets and showers especially at the end of a lengthy hot day. There is enough parking space and plenty of room to pitch your tents plus 2 two covered BBQ cooking places.
There is a well stocked bar and the main meals are all served within the open restaurant. In case you are to set out for your safari adventure activities before sunrise, we prepare an early breakfast yet alternatively you could carry a packed breakfast or lunch. For such arrangements please remember to inform our staff the night before. A delicious lunch is offered in buffet style within the restaurant while in the evenings a three course dinner is served. When booking with us, please remember to inform us of any special dietary needs so that our staff can prepare to cater for you accordingly.
You can have your Mobile phones charged at our bar using the solar power, though reception is normally unreliable and internet connection is not possible. The pathways are lit by Lamps at night and when the guests are retiring for bed, they are escorted from the restaurant by askaris back to their places of accommodation. At night, Hippos move around the lodge’s vicinity therefore in case you hear animals grazing loudly, or hear the ‘hippo laugh’ don’t get frightened, it is actually all part of your experience in the wild bush although by day break they would have returned to the river banks.
Enjoy your stay.
