What are the reasons for Uganda’s growing popularity as a travel destination?

Some of the things that have caused this surge in popularity and made Uganda make it to the list of the top 20 travel destinations include;

Primates such as Gorillas: It came to the attention of both Uganda and the rest of the world that Uganda is primate country. From monkeys, to baboons to chimpanzees and to the rare and sought after golden monkeys and mountain gorillas. There is no better country to visit if you are looking to see primates of different kinds. In the past five years gorilla trekking in Uganda has become one of the most sought after Africa safari adventures. The pearl of Africa is home to more than half of the world’s population of mountain gorillas, and some of these have been habituated so visitors can get to see them in their natural habitat.

Chimpanzees too are an attraction in Uganda, they are found in various places in the western part of Uganda. The golden monkeys, also quite a rare species are found in Mgahinga national park on the foothills of the Virunga Mountains. It is because of the abundance of primates that Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Mgahinga national park, and other parks in the western part of the country have a lot of tourist traffic.

Wildlife and Birds: Today, Uganda as an Africa Safari destination offers more than just primates, it has a variety of wild life spread out in various national parks. Many visitors have finally discovered that Uganda has it all and then some, perhaps the only safari experience the country cannot offer is sandy white beaches because it has no coast line.

Uganda has over 1,050 species of birds. Over half the species found in all of Africa can be found in uganda. The variety and ever increasing population of birds and wildlife is one reason why the country is growing in popularity as a tourist destination.

The mystical Lake Bunyonyi and the magnificent Lake Victoria are splendid sights. There is world the famous river Nile, the longest river in Africa, with its source in Jinja. Equally breathtaking are the mountain ranges in the east and the west. The Rwenzori Mountains of the moon in western Uganda, and there is Mount Elgon in the East. The Ssese Islands on Lake Victoria with beautiful sandy beaches, the western rift valley escarpment where you will find the Kyambura gorge, the explosion crater lakes, and various other features in the Albertine rift valley. There is queen Elizabeth national park, Murchison falls national park which has the majestic Murchison falls, the Virunga Mountains and so much more; the list is endless. All of these features are a testament to the book of Genesis. “God created the……..and He saw that it was good”! The scenery in Uganda is truly beautiful; you will want to see it over and over again. It adds weight to the name “the pearl of Africa”.

Rich in Adventure and exciting experiences: Uganda, more than any other East African country, is known for exciting adventures and experiences. If you are an adrenaline junkie, or just looking for adventure in Africa, Uganda is the place to go. Climbing Mt. RwenzoriFriendly people and rich culture: Uganda is Africa at its very best. Visiting this country gives you a truly African experience. Safaris in Uganda are not only about wildlife and adventure, but also meeting and interacting with the locals and experiencing their rich culture.

Culture and heritage tourism is surviving in Uganda because it enhances the tourist experience in pearl of Africa. Village visits, village stays, and learning skills from locals are becoming popular with tourists who visit Uganda. Many have learnt to weave a basket or to play an African musical instrument on a Uganda safari trip.

Ugandans are probably the friendliest people in the Africa. They are welcoming happy to get to know you and show you some aspects of their culture.
