The Tour Overview
Beginning from and ending in the Rwandan capital city Kigali, this eastern lowland gorilla tour in the Democratic Republic of Congo puts together the Nyiragongo climb with the gorilla tracking visits in the Kahuzi Biega National Park. The park which lies in the south of the Kivu Lake and the Nyiragongo mountain which is also in the southern part of the Virunga National Park rewards you with not only the eventual safari experience but also with a quest for a lifetime.

Day 1: Transfer to the DRC’s Bukavu
Drive to the Cyangugu border in the south on the road to Bukavu after you are picked by your guide driver from the Kigali International Airport. Make a stopover at the Butare Ibis Hotel where you will have you your lunch before continuing to Bukavu past the border. Take time off to visit the genocide memorials along the Nyungwe road if you actually have got time. Arrive at your accommodation facility for an overnight and dinner.

Day 2: Kahuzi Biega Lowland Gorilla Tracking
When you are through having an early breakfast travel to the Kahuzi Biega National Park, here you will begin your lowland gorilla tracking adventure. The journey mostly lasts about an hour to the park headquarters from the Orchid Safari Lodge. As the briefing goes on, trackers are entertained with cultural dances as they sip a cup of hot coffee. Lowland Gorillas unlike the Mountain Gorillas live in much larger families and spending time in their presence is one of the opportune moments you will ever have. Head back to your hotel for dinner and rest.
Day 3: Travel to Goma
Drive to Goma from Bukavu and on arrival in the afternoon and then spend some time relaxing on the beaches and going on boat cruises on the Lake Kivu. Head back to your hotel after to have a meal and rest.
Accommodation: The Lake Kivu Serena Hotel, the Discover Youth Hostel and the Lake Kivu Waterfront Beach Hotel.
Day 4: Climb the Nyiragongo Volcano
Set off to Kibati, the beginning point for the climb after your early morning breakfast. The movement and time spent climbing depends on a number of factors like on the number of hikers and on which team you are involved in. this mostly lasts 6 to 7 hours if all factors are considered. Have your overnight and dinner at the top in the tents.
Accommodation: Cabins at the summit and or tents.
Day 5: Descend and Departure
Move down from the mountain to Kibati and arrive mid-morning after which you will travel to Goma to have your Lunch before transferring back to Kigali. You are driven to the airport to catch your flight back.
