Uganda – Mt. Rwenzori and Gorilla Trek (14 days)
Day 1 – Arrive in Uganda
On arrival at Entebbe International Airport you will be transferred to Kibale National Park via Fort portal. Dine and slumber at Kibale safari lodge.
Day 2 – Primate Walk in Kibale
After an early breakfast, walk into the Kibale Forest for half the day tracking chimpanzees and other primates like the Red tailed monkeys, Grey cheeked mangabeys, black & white Colobus monkeys and Baboons. Return to the lodge for lunch and later visit the Bigodi Swamp. Dine and slumber at Kibale safari lodge.
Day 3 – Travel to Nyakalengija.
Early morning head off to the Nyabitaba hut (at 2650 meters). This trek leads you through coffee plantations, and you cross River Mahoma through the forest until you arrive at the hut located on the rim of the forest offering views of the Bujuku valley as well as the portal peaks.
Day 4 – Travel to John Matte Hut
After your breakfast you will embark on your 7 hour walk, over the Kurt Sharfer Bridge to see the stunning Mubuku river convergence and late afternoon, arrive at Nyamuleju hut (also called the place of Beards) which name refers to heath moss plus lichen in the forest. You will finally arrive at John Matte hut (at 3415 meters) found near a river in an orchard of huge heather.
Day 5 – Travel to Lake Bujuku Hut
Leave early through the Bigo Bog to the Bigo Hut; proceed through the Kibatisi Bog all the way to cooking pot cave until you finally reach the gorgeous Lake Bujuku. It is supposed that it is here that Jesus learnt walking on water. Enjoy views of Mount Speke and Mount Stanley as well as the ice cave found on Mount Speke on a clear day.
Day 6 – Travel to Elena Hut
From this valley subjugated by the alpine vegetation comprising of huge Groundsels plus Lobelia, you will climb to Scott Elliott pass, and then continue to the Elena Hut (at 4560 meters) where you will spend the nighttime.
Day 7 – Margherita Peak
Ascend to the Margherita peak at 5109m which is the summit. After some time you will descend to the Kitandara hut.
Day 8 – Guy Yeoman hut
Following an early breakfast you will take a lengthy 5 hours drop which will start with hiking from the Kitandara Lake to the Fresh-field Pass where you can also enjoy views of the bordering Congo. You will have a picnic lunch along the way and carry on with the journey as you move down to the Guy Yeoman hut (at 3260 meters) where you will eat dinner and spend the nighttime.
Day 9 – Queen Elizabeth National Park
From Guy Yeoman Descend to Nyakalengija and steeply descent down the Bamboo Zone through Lake Mahoma to the start of the trail at Nyakalengija. You will proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Enjoy a game drive in the evening and later check into Hippo Hill Camp for dinner and the overnight.
Day 10 – Queen Elizabeth National Park
After an early tea, leave for a morning game drive at around 6:30AM along the Kasenyi track in northern Queen Elizabeth NP. Here you will have the chance to see the big cats making their hunt. You will afterwards return to the lodge for breakfast. Later drive to Bwindi National Park going through the Ishasha sector home to the tree climbing Lions. Dine and slumber at Kitandara Luxury tented Camp.
Days 11 &12 – Mountain Gorilla Trek.
Following an early breakfast and briefing by the ranger guides, you will set out in the forest to trek the Mountain gorillas. The trekking begins in the area where these gorillas were last seen the previous day. You will spend an hour with the gorillas, and later return to your lodge to relax, dine and slumber.
Note –Gorilla trekking is done on one of these 2 days but not on both.
Day 13 – Kampala
following breakfast, drive to Mbarara where you will have lunch at Lake view Hotel, and Later proceed to Kampala to Hotel Africana.
Day 14 – Departure
Spend the day at leisure and later be transferred to the airport for your departure flight.
