3 DAY HIKE- MOUNT NYIRAGONGO VOLCANO, RWANDA

The Tour Overview

Hiking to the top of a few of the active volcanoes left in Africa is one of the greatest adventures you could ever desire to take part in. the Virunga National Park which is the oldest of its kind in Africa has got the most active volcano; Mount Nyiragongo in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This journey begins from and ends in the city of Kigali, Rwanda and to take part in the hike one is required to obtain a hiking permit that costs only US$300 which is only US$100 lesser than the Gorilla tracking permit.

Day 1: Arrival and the DRC

Day 2: Hike the Nyiragongo

Day 3: Departure

Day 1: Travel to Gisenyi

Arrive at the Kigali International Airport where you will meet your guide who will take you briefly through how your trip will go. Thereafter enjoy a tour around the city of Kigali visiting places like museums and genocide memorials before proceeding to Rwanda’s northern province of Gisenyi. Check into your hotel, get refreshed, have dinner and rest.

Accommodation: Paradise Malahide, Lake Kivu Waterfront Beach Hotel and or the Lake Kivu Serena Hotel.

Day 2: Climb the Mount Nyiragongo

Get up early in the morning to have breakfast and then transfer to the border and enter the Democratic Republic of Congo. Continue for an hour until you get to Kibati; the beginning point for the hike at Nyiragongo. Spend 5 to 7 hours getting to the top of the mountain where you will have your dinner and an overnight. Meals for both lunch and dinner will be prepared and packed for you to carry along.

Accommodation: Nyiragongo Cabin Shelters.

Day 3: Departure

Enjoy your breakfast before descending below; back to Kibati where your driver is waiting to transfer you to the town of Goma so that you can take a tour around the city. Visit the Lava areas and the Goma caves before you can head to the border and continue to the Kigali International Airport to catch your flight.
